Elder Exploitation: Follow The Money

Posted on March 3, 2019February 8, 2021 by Kendra Cooper

Host Dr. Rachel Geller Ed.D. and guests Attorney Kendra Cooper and Personal Representative Jane Krieger discuss the problem of financial exploitation of elders, citing specific examples and patterns followed by some abusers.

With 10,000 residents turning 62 every day nationally, Episode 12 emphasizes the need for more training of law enforcement, protective services and the courts in the larger picture of financial exploitation. Discussion includes references to the 2014 MA Legislative Commission Report on Elder Protective Services and the 2015 ME Attorney General Mills Final Report on Financial Exploitation of Elders. Also the October 2017 Federal Elder Abuse Prevention and Prosecution Act (EAAPA) which contains provisions for the training of FBI agents and federal prosecutors in financial exploitation.
